Moonlit Springs Vineyard is named in appreciation of the springs on the property and the amazing moonscapes of the evening and night sky, which bathe the land with a subtle glow.
The award winning cooler climate shiraz wine is made from hand pruned, hand picked grapes, slowly matured in French and American oak barriques. The resulting crimson hued wine has an intense perfume, touches of spice, with lingering berry flavours on the palate.
The vines (2 clones, BVRC 30 and 1127) were planted between 1994 and 1997 and were specifically selected for their suitability for cooler climate viticulture.
The cooler climate in the Southern Fleurieu contributes to a long, slow ripening season which in turn influences the characteristics of the wine.
We purchased the property in mid 2004, with a view to a lifestyle change and a desire to make good wine and set about hard pruning the vineyard so as to minimize quantity, but maximize quality.
We crop to around 2 tonne/acre and the subsequent award winning wine appears to support our approach.
Our philosophy is simply to:
"... grow quality fruit and to adopt and maintain environmentally sustainable grape growing practices to enhance that quality and health in the grapes, the land and of course the wine. "
